[ They spend a little more time cheering Jolyne up (not that Johnny would ever admit to that), but eventually the night gets late enough that everyone retreats to their own rooms. Johnny goes through the motions of getting ready for bed a little slower than usual, kind of turning thoughts over in his head as he strips out of his shoes and clothes. Every so often he glances up to watch Gyro move around the room, though he hesitates each time before he can comment, not sure what he wants to be saying.
It's not until he's actually in his bunk that he manages something, turning his head to look over at Gyro even as he stays laid out on his back ]
[ Gyro keeping odd hours isn't necessarily a new development, so he isn't exactly quiet as he rustles around their apartment, picking at their odds and end and taking note of their inventory, things they should keep and things they can part with during an emergency. Johnny's slept through objectively worse rackets than this, so he looks just a little surprised when he's called over; he'd assumed that the kid'd fallen asleep a while ago.
But, well. He has no reason to refuse. Off he goes, standing next to Johnny's bed when he reaches it to crane forward, one hand braced against the frame of the top bunk. ]
Yeah? What's up. Don't tell me you need a lullaby.
[ He has no idea where this is going for a while— something about being lonely? something about what he's going to do when he eventually goes back 'home'?— and then it hits.
Okay, cue him looking just as awkward for a split second. ]
A 'thing'? What, like... a relationship or something?
i'm pretty sure she would be, if you gave her half an actual opening!
[ Crosses his arms and stares stubbornly up at the bottom of Gyro's bunk. This isn't comfortable at all, without a pillow, but he's made this figurative bed and he's damn well gonna lie in it ]
[ I mean okay, it's basically jealousy, but jealousy honestly sounds way too shallow for how he feels about this, not that he'd really know how to express that ]
Yeah, well, what do they say in your country again? "If the boot fits"?
[ It's "if the shoe fits", close enough. Pardon him as he leans in and tries to get a good look at Johnny's face to assess his reaction, Gyro would probably be reaching for a wrist to check his pulse if that weren't so weird. ]
[ roll onto his side again, not wanting to be looked at. He can feel the hot prick of tears at the corner of his eyes and he hates that, but between whatever NOT JEALOUSY feelings he's having and feeling like he's being repremanded make it hard to fight ]
[ Johnny Joestar you look at Gyro right this second
The rolling prompts Gyro to...lift his hands in some sort of surrender, as though he doesn't want to press the issue because he's not entirely sure how much he can press without making this weird, or awkward, or ruining whatever...this is, whatever they have. But then that "whatever" hits, and Gyro knows what that "whatever" means, because Johnny Joestar is really damn good at saying and doing two different things.
So. A hand goes on that shoulder, shakes it a little. ]
For someone who doesn't give a shit, you're really sticking your nose into this business.
[ He doesn't want to, not like this--but then, if want he wants is Gyro's attention then he definitely doesn't want to give him more reasons to pull away, like for instance ignoring him.
So he rolls back over with a small huff, though he glares, only a little watery ]
[ And God, there's a long stretch of silence here that's probably all-too-awkward to be a comfortable lull in conversation; one of those long pauses Gyro takes before he makes a purposely obtuse comment or waves whatever he wanted to say away altogether.
Once he decides he's done saying nothing, he casually sweeps his hair back over his shoulder, leans in...
...and plants a quick kiss to the corner of Johnny's mouth. ]
Honestly he doesn't do anything but stare for a good long while, at least as long as Gyro's silence before. Once he feels like he's caught up again he feels-- ...silly. And pleased, and relieved, but he ducks his head down, embarrassed over causing a scene. He's great at causing a scene of course, but usually not over where he and Gyro stand with each other
...after another moment he turns--towards Gyro this time, flopping against him affectionately, more like usual, deliberately casual even if it's a little forced ]
...Okay. I-- okay. I guess you could kiss her, whatever.
[ He snorts, not because he's actually annoyed or exasperated, but because a part of him is slightly embarrassed about making the first move when he knew, knew he shouldn't have. But that seems moot by now, all his misgivings about being too close, so he scoops Johnny up in his arms (without much finesse) and rests his chin on his partner's head. ]
—You're a moron, you know that? You probably played right into her hand, or whatever. Her whole...
[ A hand waves in the air. ]
..."Are you two sure you're not working things out" deal. Now I'm gonna have to say "yeah, we are", and she's gonna be smug as hell about it.
[ He makes himself comfortable like that, and it's easy to do--unsurprisingly, it's not like they aren't usually all up in each other's space, and if it feels any different it's only in a nice way ]
Shit, you're right, what have I done..? Too late now, I guess.
[ Because it is, it's too late to return to not-this, even if this is still very small. Now that he has his opening he has no intention of going back, and Gyro better be ready for that because if there's one thing he's good at, it's doggedly following Gyro around with just the barest hint of encouragement ]
[ There's still the "I'm probably still dead in our world" thing to contend with, that big elephant in the room, but there's also no reason for Gyro to rain on this parade— yet. So, instead of being a huge insufferable baby, he makes himself useful and settles into being a huge mildly-sufferable baby.
Aka, nudging his boots off and dropping them on the floor, rolling onto his side and taking Johnny down with him. ]
You better not complain about it later by saying shit like "Gyro's sooo embarrassing". You brought this on yourself, remember that.

I wouldn't say no, but I'd tell you that I'm not your damn mom.
[ nudges! ]
Got something on your mind?
no subject
Mom wasn't so damn chatty, of course you're not mom.
[ He's quiet for... a while, visibly fighting with himself over the words ]
So...is that gonna be a--thing I gotta worry about..? You-- ...You and Jolyne...?
[ Ugh, words. Ugh. Ugh! His mouth twists to even get them out. Ugh. ]

What, you think I'm just gonna start spending all my time making googly eyes at her? Is that it?
no subject
It ain't your eyes I'm worried about!

What are you worried about, then. Come on, out with it.
no subject
I--don't wanna have to watch you make out all the time. Or--whatever! She ain't really shy, you know...
no subject
What the hell, who do you think I am? What do you think I am, horny all the time?
[ He's offended. Slightly. He also feels some of that 'feelings-you're-not-supposed-to-feel-for-others', which is becoming a mounting problem... ]
—Listen up, I doubt she's actually into me that way.
